Loooooooong day

I have been in training for the last two days. Good information, but training with a group of other people wears me out. I have different questions than them and, after all, I'm the only one that matters.

Sunset Launch?

If this was an airplane's contrail, then someone should be able to tell us the airline, flight number, make, and model of the jet. I don;t know which I would prefer it to be: a missile that the government should have launched at midday instead of at sunset, a privately launched rocket, or a commercial airliner for which the government has no tracking information.

Professional Sports

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I loved watching the Texas Rangers in the World Series this year. But generally speaking, I hate professional sports. Professional athletes make so much money (and as a Libertarian I say more power to them) that they are out of touch with their fans. News headlines in the baseball world today are littered with Cliff Lee's agent talking to the Yankees. I know Texas got him midway through the season as a hired gun to get them to and through the playoffs, but the pros jump from team to team so often that you end up rooting for a logo instead of a group of players.
High School Sports are home-grown athletes playing for their home-town fans. College is still mostly made up of athletes working as a team to bring glory to their alma mater. But in the pros, it's a group of individuals playing together with the same logo on their shirt because the owner of that logo is paying them more than the owner of any other logo. No thanks, fellas. I don't want to buy a team shirt with your name on it only to use it as an oil rag in six months because you've changed teams twice since I bought the shirt.

Football Weekend

The last three days were a big football weekend for me. Unfortunately I missed my #3 son running in the regional cross country meet. But I got to watch #2 play Friday night, #1 coach Saturday, and the Cowboys continue to implode on Sunday night.
First, congratulations to Blake for being on the regional qualifying cross country team. For a kid who is not a good distance runner and doesn't particularly enjoy jogging, he stuck it out and got himself a letter-jacket and patch for the season. Now he'll be in better shape for basketball than his buddies who were on the football field all fall.
Friday night was disappointing when Brandon and his varsity football teammates failed to get a chance at a coin toss for a playoff berth. They need to win by 14 to force a three-way-odd-man-out coin toss for the 2nd and 3rd place playoff spots. Absurdity Alert: too many high school teams make it into the playoffs.
Saturday I drove to Canyon, Texas with my dad-in-law and #2 and #4 sons to watch the ACU Wildcats defeat the West Texas A&M Buffaloes. The Wildcats have not disappointed all season as the stretched their record to 10-0 this year. Bradley should have another ring for LSC champions. My voice is still not quite right from screaming DEEEEFENSE! It was well worth the trip. A nice palette cleansing from Friday night's game.
And Sunday night, the Dallas Cows were on TV for a national audience to watch the implosion. That's all I have to say about that.

Daily Absudity

I like to look at Google News each day to scan the headlines for interesting news. I rarely find anything interesting, but the headlines are Idiocracy in action:
"Lil Wayne Faces Post Prison Challenges, Expert Says" I'm not an expert, but I think it's safe to apply that statement to everyone who was, is, and will be released from prison.
"AIG Posts $200 Million Operating Loss on Bailout-Related Costs" AIG is losing $200 million because they are paying us back for their bailout. Unfortunately our president is spending that $200 million in one day cruising around the globe looking important.
"Early scans cut lung cancer deaths, but at a price" News flash: healthcare is not free. Early scans for any ailment can cut the deaths of that ailment, but it takes technology, electricity, and expertise to run the scanning machines, so you have to pay money to get the scan.

Decision

It's time to change phones. My iPhone has been very good to me, at least until I installed iOS 4. I really want to try a Droid phone, and the Captivate seems like the way to go for Droid. I am completely unfamiliar with the Droid apps, but I have no desire to lose my Chess with Friends and Words with Friends apps. Maybe I can make the decision by Christmas.

Ugh...lection Day

Its a non-presidential election year. The bad news is that you will see names and laws on the ballot about which you know absolutely nothing, and you're expected to make a decision for one or the other. The good news is that television and radio ads against candidates will cease after today. Notice that I said "ads against." I have yet to see one advertisement where a candidate for any office brags about things they actually accomplished of their own initiative. The closest I can think of is Rick Perry talking about Texas being "open for business." What he fails to mention is that Texas used a huge share of the economic stimulus money from the federal government to make its state finances look good.
You may catch on, if you keep reading this blog, that I'm quite conservative in my politics. I have not seen a conservative candidate nor idea offered up by either the Donkeys nor the Elephants in years. It's all either more liberal or less liberal. Each election, at least for state or federal office, is a choice of the least of a list of evils. I have begun to think that voting a straight Libertarian ballot is the only way to go. While that can be written off as a wasted vote by some, it's the closest I can come to voting the way I think things ought to be. Protect my borders, provide for a common defense of all 50 states, and quit trying to be my nurse-maid.

It's time

Game 5 is tonight. I predict a Ranger's loss. I want them to win, but they look like they have lost the mojo that got them this far. Each player looks like he is trying to knock the ball out of the park when he is at the plate. Small-ball prevailed in the Devil Rays and Yankees series. Where has the small-ball gone. It's like I'm watching the pre-Ron Washington Rangers again.
I've been a fan of the Rangers since I was in Kindergarten and a yearly member of the Dr. Pepper Junior Rangers (or whatever it was called). My first experiences attending a game were at the old Arlington Stadium cooking in the outfield bleachers, because that's where the Dr. Pepper tickets were located. Having been a fan for so long, it's still surreal to be watching a Rangers baseball game on November 1.
GO RANGERS!!!!

Hello and welcome

I chose this template for my blog simply because it's called Awesome, Inc. It's like someone envisioned me as CEO of a company, then named the company.
I'm a historically horrible blogger, but I'm giving it a shot one more time. This will be my release for the frustrations that surround me daily by shedding a little light on the absurdity that is life in almost rural Texas, USA. Read a post or two if like, follow me if you must. Hopefully it will be entertaining if nothing else.
